Tinted windows can seriously up the cool factor of your vehicle but having tinted windows offers many benefits far beyond the aesthetic appeal of your vehicle. Properly installed window tint can improve the safety of your vehicle and the comfort of your ride by offering UV protection, increased reinforcement, greater privacy, increased interior preservation, and better gas mileage.
Window tint reduces the number of harmful UV rays the passengers of the vehicle are exposed to. This is especially important during long trips where passengers would otherwise be exposed to a large number of harmful UV rays.
In addition to offering UV protection, window tint also reinforces the structural integrity of the vehicle’s windows. In the unfortunate event of an accident, the window tint film tends to hold the broken glass and prevent dangerous shards from flying around and potentially harming anyone inside of the vehicle. Window tint will also make it more difficult for anyone passing by to identify personal belongings left behind and make it harder for would-be thieves to break the window. In addition to its safety benefits, window tint can help save you money by reducing the need to run air conditioning thus, increasing your gas mileage, and increasing the longevity of your car’s interior by protecting it from sun damage.
How Much Does it Cost for Tinted Car Windows?
The cost to tint your windows will vary depending on many factors like the type of vehicle, its make and model, the number and types of windows you wish to get tinted, and the type of window tint you wish to be applied. The general rule of thumb is to expect that the more windows you wish to get tinted and the bigger they are the more expensive the tinting cost will be.
In general, the vehicle type is divided into four categories: two-door vehicles, four-door vehicles, wagons & small SUVs, and full-size SUVs & minivans. There is also an added expense if the vehicle’s windows are in some way unique. Some older vehicles do not have existing templates so the shape of the window tint must be hand-cut, or some newer vehicles like many of the Tesla models have larger windows than usual, so extra material is needed and additional time is required which will increase the overall price.
Finally, the last factor that will determine how much money you spend to get your windows tinted is the quality of the window tint itself, there are many different options of window tint, each serving its unique purpose but the higher grade window tint will cost more.
If old window tint needs to be removed, this can also add to the total cost of new window tint.
With all of these factors considered, the range of money you can expect to spend on average can be as low as $250 for installation of our basic window tint on a standard 4 door sedan and as high as $1,000 for our highest-end window tint. These prices are the extremes of that range, for some exceptions like limos tints as dark as 5% can be used.
How Can I Get a Window Tint Exemption in Arizona?
Arizona does offer a medical tint exemption for any individual who is required for medical reasons to be shielded from the direct rays of the sun. The tint exemption allows for darker tints to be used as well as your full windshield to be tinted.
To receive the exemption you must fill out an application for a window tint medical exemption, have it certified by a medical provider, and submit it to the Arizona Department of Transportation for review.
This exemption is granted for any vehicles that you own as well as other vehicles in which you are a regular passenger.
How Does Arizona’s Window Tint Restrictions Compare to Other States?
All states limit tinting your front windshield to a visor strip, however, the parameters of size and location differ state to state. States like Arizona, Florida, and Nevada require the tint to stay above the AS-1 line, and states like Alabama, Georgia, and Illinois allow tint six inches from the top of the windshield.
The states with the lowest allowed tint (darkest windows) are Michigan– which allows any, and New Mexico which allows 20% tint on front side windows. New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Vermont are the strictest states and do not allow any tint on the front side windows.
